A Heart of Thankfulness

By Catherina Carucci

Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16 (NASB)

The last two years have been very trying and difficult times for my family. My husband was unemployed for seven months, our savings was quickly running out, and our marriage was falling apart by the seams. I had two choices to make, either I dwell on the things we did not have and get depressed or choose to thank God for the things I did have and trust Him to provide. It wasn’t always easy, but I decided to Trust God and He has been so faithful to us. He provided food through gift cards, and cash, shelter, encouragement and prayer from family and friends. Our needs were always met and I will forever be grateful and thankful to God and to those who allowed themselves to be used by Him to help us in our time of need. We are still going through some rough patches, but I rejoice with “A Heart of Thankfulness” because I know the Lord will see us through them all. So no matter what you might be going through in your life at this present moment, I want to encourage you to sing a new song of “thankfulness” unto God for He has given us yet another day filled with His love, grace and mercies.

This month of November, remember to be thankful and Just Breathe!

Reflection Corner:

Today, enjoy today’s Poem in lieu of questions:

Be Thankful –

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire, If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don’t know something For it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times. During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes they will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you’re tired and weary because it means you’ve made a difference.

It is easy to be thankful for the good things. A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks. GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive. Find a way to be thankful for your troubles and they can become your blessings. Author Unknown

  1. Cathy I loved your post because it presents us with the opportunity to take on a ‘grateful perspective’ and not remain focused on our difficult and challenging circumstances. Thank you for your transparency; it is of great example to us all. Bless you!

Thank you Floralba!! At times it is very difficult not to focus on our circumstances when they are ovewhelming us but that’s when we need to make the choice to first cast our cares upon the Lord ’cause He’s the only one that can sustain us and then look forward with hope for better days. It’s also very important to surround ourselves with people who will pray, encourage, and walk alongside us in this journey of life. I’m so grateful for those who have walked alongside my family and me. In turn, I pray that I can be that encouragement to others in their time of need.

You write it quite clear: We have a choice to make. We can choose to dwell on our present circumstances and become depress or we can look up, look within, look around and see God working in us, for us. Cathy, He is faithful. I am so glad that He has proven that to you and to your family. Thank you for your honesty and for blessing me today. I will choose to sing a song of “Thankfulness” unto our Lord.

Dear Cathy I simply loved your post 🙂 A great reminder and thank you for sharing your journey 🙂 The following quote comes to mind: “Gratitude the meanest and most snivelling attribute in the world.” Dorothy Parker
