My husband and I watched the movie Hugo, a movie nominated for several academy awards. There was a line in the movie that captivated me and has left me thinking. Hugo said (something like this) to Isabel ….The world is like a large machine with many parts that serve a purpose. There are no extra parts in a machine and since I am in this world, I am not an extra part and therefore I have a purpose to be here….
You see Hugo is an orphan and has no one in this world. He is trying to figure out why he is here and part of this world.
What an amazing reminder for us all! No extra pieces….
At some point in your life, haven’t you wondered what your purpose is in this world? Questions like: What am I doing you here??? Am I doing what I was meant to be doing???
Finding your purpose doesn’t seem to come easy but a development during our life journey- each day you figure out a different thing that contributes to our overall purpose- your individual purpose-your specific purpose.
As human beings we have all been programmed to want and need to fullfil that purpose. When we don’t have a vision, a goal or a purpose in our lives we tend to feel lost or in a sense, “unnecessary” but that is not God’s intent for your life. You are part of a grand purpose, you are not an extra piece or an after thought and furthermore you are not a mistake.
One of my favorite scripture verse is Jeremiah 29:11, (For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope) which assures me that there is a specific plan devised just for me, just for you. If you are giving up on figuring out that purpose or feel that one may not exist for you- I challenge you today to not give up nor give in to that lie.
Psalms 139:11 states “Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous — and how well I know it.” and in Ephesians 2:10 it states “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
Today I remind you to not only Just Breathe but remember that you are a masterpiece created by Him.
