Be Still

Be still and know that I am God…. Psalms 46:10

As I was sitting today, my little Joey (teacup Maltese) came next to me and wanted to be petted.  As I was running my hands through his head, ears and full back he stood still- didn’t move one bit!  Now, you need to understand, he is still a two year old puppy and loves to run around and be playful.  However, during this time of caressing he knew to be still and enjoy his time with his master.

As I was caressing him I sensed God speaking into my spirit that I was running around so much in my life that I wasn’t  stopping long enough to “be still” and enjoy His caress.  He had been waiting for me but I was allowing every thing that needed to be done to take priority in my life and was not taking the time to refuel. It got me thinking how run down I was truly feeling these days, how emotionally and physically drained–just pure exhaustion! As women, we are there for everyone else; the husband, the kids, the friends, the job, the ministry responsibilities (yes, I said the “ministry”) that we truly forget who provides us with our daily strength.

I challenge you today to STOP, DON’T MOVE and enjoy the stillness and caress that your God wants to give you.  Allow Him to caress your hair, give you the best back massage ever, and yes, allow Him to even caress your earsJ.  Take time to embrace your Creator and Be Still!  I know you must be wondering how my little Joey is doing, well once he was done being “still” he ran off and was once again playful and re-energized!!!

I guess today I may not need to remind you to.. .Just Breathe!

 Reflection Corner:

1.)   When was the last time you stopped and allowed God to fill you with His love?

2.)   What are ways that you can be intentional about slowing down?

3.)   Take your calendar and schedule some “still” time.  You may want to Journal or just be still.  Do this for the next 30 days and document how different your life has been since you took the time to “be still” and tell me all about it.

I like the NASB version, it says “Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” God doesn’t want our busyness, he wants our hearts. God longs to be with us and he’s always calling us to that place of stillness in Him. In that place of stillness we will hear His voice and find our strength. Thank you Silvia and Joey for the beautiful reminder.

    • Love that version Cathy!!! Thank you so much for sharing. We live in times where busyness is celebrated and admired however, that is not the life that God planned for us. I have a feeling that Joey has more lessons for us…

  2. This reminds me of the “What frames your day blog piece I wrote a few days ago”. So important to take some time each day to be still and reflect on God’s love and purpose in our inner character, what He desires to do INSIDE of us so that we are prepared to serve all around us.

  3. Hey Sylvia, thank you for sharing this message! I am struggling to take this lesson and carry it through to fruition. I often find myself working 16+ hours/day and that exhaustion always shows up in my quiet time with Him. Self-care is so important. Blessings, sister!
